Michael Muska

Michael Muska is respected as one of the premier experts on college admissions in the United States.  During his almost 30 years in admissions, Michael has worked at such colleges as Brown University, Cornell University, and Oberlin College and such secondary schools as Phillips Andover Academy, Milton Academy, and Poly Prep Country Day School. For the past two years he has consulted at EF Academy, an international school with an IB curriculum.  In addition, Michael has lectured and spoken at national meetings of the SAT, NCAA, and the National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC).  He has placed students at many of the most prestigious schools in America and abroad, yet Michael is always cognizant of the individual needs of each student and where might be the best fit for him or her.

Michael’s athletic background is equally impressive. As an assistant track and field coach at Auburn University, he was twice recognized as the SEC Cross Country Coach of the Year and coached twenty Division I All-Americans. At Northwestern University, he was voted the Big Ten Coach of the Year and had four more All-Americans. Michael has remained involved with athletics by assisting with the track and field programs at the various secondary schools at which he's worked and for ten years served as meet director for the Ivy League's track and field and cross country championships. With his extensive background in athletics and admissions Michael is recognized as a top national expert on athletic recruiting and the admission process that goes hand in hand with it.

Michael has also been recognized for his work in the LGBT community. He was the first openly gay male college coach (Brown) and the first gay male college athletic director (Oberlin). His award winning article, “Reflections of a Gay Athletic Director” in the Chronicle of Higher Education set an early standard for what schools can do to create safe spaces for all of their students. He also played an instrumental role in the passage of the gay rights bill in Rhode Island while at Brown.

Michael is an honors graduate in history from the University of Connecticut and also earned a masters degree in athletic administration from the University of Massachusetts.
